Collingswood firefighters subdued an equipment fire that interrupted dinner service at Cafe Antonio’s pizzeria Thursday afternoon.
Collingswood Fire Chief Geoff Joyce said that first responders were dispatched to the 800 block of Haddon Avenue at 4:37 p.m. for a report of a building fire.
They arrived on the scene within two minutes to discover light smoke emanating from the property.
The culprit appeared to have been an overheated HVAC fan, Joyce said.
Firefighters were able to subdue the flames within minutes to prevent them from extending deeper into the building.
No injuries were reported.
By 6 p.m., restaurant staff were awaiting the arrival of the Camden County Health Department to get the all-clear to reopen.
The incident marks the first local fire within Collingswood limits to which its new Spartan S-180 pumper engine has responded, Joyce said.
The department will have a housing ceremony for the new apparatus from 11 a.m. to 12 noon October 12.
Also responding to the incident Thursday on automatic aid were fire companies from Audubon, Cherry Hill, Pennsauken, and Westmont.
