A 22-year-old Camden City man has been charged in the shooting death of a Merchantville resident.
Anderson Diaz is alleged to have killed Michael Edwards in a January 11 incident.
Just before 1 a.m. that morning, police discovered Edwards unresponsive on the 400 block of Pfeiffer Street in Camden City, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO).
Suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, Edwards was transported to Cooper University Hospital, “where he died a short time later,” the CCPO said.
Diaz was formally charged January 23 with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to have a weapon. He is being held in Camden County Jail pending a pretrial detention hearing on unrelated charges.
Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. An arrest is not a conviction.
