Four more Camden County residents have lost their battles with novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and 86 others have tested positive for the virus since Monday, according to reports from the Camden County government.
That brings the local impact of the pandemic to 11,777 infected residents and 566 related deaths.
The recently deceased are a Cherry Hill man in his 60s, a Runnemede woman in her 70s, and a Voorhees man and woman in their 90s.
“We are continuing to see the number of new cases steadily rise,” said Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli in a written statement Wednesday.
“Thirteen days this month have already seen daily totals greater than 50 after we had a single-day total that high just once throughout all of September,” he said.
Cappelli acknowledged that the ability to see reliable daily case data allows a faster response to the current surge.
“We can flatten the curve again,” he said, “but we need everyone to refrain from hosting or attending indoor gatherings, wear your mask whenever you are around others, and work with our contact tracing team when they call.”
Throughout New Jersey, 223,223 people have been sickened by COVID-19, and 14,456 have perished from causes related to the virus. In addition to those lab-confirmed fatalities, the state also recognizes another 1,789 probable COVID-19-related deaths.
LTC cases and deaths
Long-term care (LTC) facilities account for half of all deaths in the state and almost one-fifth of those infected, and new cases continue to occur there.
Of 11,777 reported local COVID-19 cases, 2,173 (18 percent) have originated in a Camden County LTC facility: 1,533 are residents and 640 are staff.
LTCs are believed to be associated with 60 percent, or 339 of the 566 total deaths in Camden County: 336 were residents and three were staff.
At this time, 50 of the 56 LTCs in Camden County have experienced at least one case of COVID-19.
