To date, the pandemic has claimed the lives of 938 local residents and has sickened 35,989 others.

In the past week, 42 additional Camden County residents have lost their battles with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and another 1,382 residents have tested positive, according to reports from the Camden County government.
That brings the local impact of the pandemic to 35,989 infected residents and 938 related deaths.
The 42 recently deceased hailed from 19 local communities.
They are:
- an Audubon man in his 50s
- a Bellmawr man and woman in their 70s
- a Berlin Township man and woman in their 70s
- five Camden City women, one each in her 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s; and three men, one each in his 50s, 60s, and 70s
- two Cherry Hill men in their 80s, and two women in their 90s
- a Chesilhurst man in his 60s
- a Collingswood man in his 90s
- a Gloucester Township man in his 70s
- a Haddon Heights woman in her 90s
- a Haddon Township man in his 90s
- a Haddonfield woman in her 80s
- a Lindenwold man in his 40s, and woman in her 60s
- three Pennsauken men, one each in his 60s, 70s, and 80s
- two Pine Hill men, one each in his 60s and 80s
- a Runnemede woman in her 90s
- a Somerdale woman in her 70s
- six Voorhees women, four in their 90s, and one each in her 60s and 80s; and a man in his 70s
- a Waterford man in his 70s
- two Winslow men in their 70s
“My heart breaks thinking of the families that have been left less than whole because of this pandemic. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” said Camden County Commissioner-Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. in a written statement.
“Widespread vaccinations will ultimately be the most effective means of preventing additional loss of life, but we can help to minimize the devastation brought by this virus if we continue to do our part as individuals,” Cappelli, Jr. said.
“Wear a mask, social distance, avoid indoor gatherings, and work with our contact tracing team when they call.”
Throughout New Jersey, 615,202 people have been sickened by COVID-19, and 19,254 have perished from causes related to the virus. In addition to those lab-confirmed fatalities, the state also recognizes another 2,129 probable COVID-19-related deaths, eight more than previously reported.
LTC cases and deaths
Long-term care (LTC) facilities account for less than half of all deaths in the state and nine percent of those infected, and new cases continue to occur there.
Of 35,989 reported local COVID-19 cases, 3,531 (10 percent) have originated in a Camden County LTC facility: 2,213 are residents and 1,318 are staff.
LTCs are believed to be associated with 47 percent, or 442 of 938 total deaths in Camden County: 437 were residents and five were staff.
At this time, 30 of the 56 LTCs in Camden County are experiencing an active outbreak of COVID-19.
New cases
According to the New Jersey Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard, on January 29, Camden County was ninth in the state in new COVID-19 cases, with 264.
In response to the uptick in cases, pop-up testing sites have been established in Camden City at three schools on a rolling schedule. No appointment is required, and the sites are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following days:
- Monday: Veterans Memorial School, 800 North 26th Street in Cramer Hill
- Wednesday: Cooper Poynt School, 201 State Street in North Camden
- Thursday: Dr. Charles Brimm Medical Arts High School, 1626 Copewood Street in Whitman Park
Camden County also maintains appointment-only pop-up testing sites at both the Cherry Hill and Camden City campus locations of Camden County College, at the Charles J. DePalma complex in Lindenwold, and at the Library II and Hope United Methodist Church in Voorhees. For a full list of local testing sites, click here.
