A domestic dispute ended tragically in Collingswood Monday, when a man reportedly stabbed his estranged wife to death and then attempted to take his own life in the ‘C’ Building at the Heights of Collingswood apartments.

On Tuesday, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office charged 41-year-old Timothy Moorman of Camden City with the first-degree murder of 36-year-old Joseline Perez, who had recently moved into the apartment.

Perez was pronounced dead of multiple stab wounds at 9:52 p.m. Monday. Moorman remains in critical condition at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, having been evacuated from the scene with self-inflicted stab wounds. Bail has not been set in the case.

Despite a regular pulse of activity at the complex—fire alarms are often escalated to an “all-hands” call there because of the size of the building and its dense population—Edward Lopez, a two-year resident, said it is typically “real peaceful.

“There’s always something happening, but I’ve never heard of something like this,” Lopez said Tuesday. “This is a real calm town. I never heard of anyone getting killed in Collingswood.”

Another resident who declined to be identified said the volume of police at the scene and the presence of news helicopters overhead told her “there was something different” about the incident Monday night.

The borough had not suffered a homicide in 17 years, when 23-year-old Rodney Bullock of Camden kidnapped Chia Yen “Ann” Hsu from her apartment and threw her in the Cooper River to die, according to Philly.com. Bullock is serving a 60-year sentence for that crime.
