Oaklyn police are investigating a robbery-by-note that occurred Sunday afternoon at the borough TD Bank branch.

Around 1 p.m., a man allegedly entered the bank and passed a note to a teller demanding cash. He fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. No weapon was produced and no one was injured in the incident.

The individual was last seen wearing a bomber hat, sunglasses, heavy jacket and khakis, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO).

Although robbery-by-note is not an uncommon crime, “our bank isn’t too used to seeing it,” said Oaklyn Police Chief Mark Moore. Moore could only recall two other such incidents in his tenure with the borough police department.

The chief declined to offer a possible motive for the incident, although he did note that the prior most recent bank robbery in the borough was an occasion of “desperate need” by an individual who’d fallen behind on rent.

Anyone with information on the incident should call CCPO Det. Michelle Chambers (856-580-6070) or Oaklyn Police Lt. Craig Stauts (856-854-0049), or e-mail ccpotips@ccprosecutor.org.
