A Cherry Hill man who stalked his ex-wife in her Audubon Park neighborhood and brutally attacked her may spend the rest of his life in prison for the crime.
After a three-week trial, a Camden County Superior Court jury found 76-year-old Philip Puche guilty of first-degree murder in the July 19, 2020 death of his ex-wife, 62-year-old Nancy Kenny.
On that date, first responders were summoned to Audubon Park for a reported stabbing. There they found Kenny suffering from multiple stab and slash wounds. Despite being severely injured, she was able to identify the assailant to police as her ex-husband, Philip Puche.
Investigators identified Puche from surveillance footage that showed him driving around her home the day of the attack, and Cherry Hill Police arrested him that day. Puche has been housed in the Camden County Jail since July 2020
After the attack, Kenny was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. She lived on for eight months before eventually perishing from complications related to “multiple incised wounds to the head and neck,” according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO).
After her passing, Puche’s charges were upgraded from first-degree attempted murder to first-degree murder, of which he was convicted April 3, 2024. Puche was also convicted of first-degree robbery, second-degree burglary, and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He is scheduled for sentencing May 17, 2024, and faces the possibility of life incarceration in New Jersey State Prison.
EDITOR’S NOTE: An earlier version of this story mistakenly reported that Puche was accused of breaking into Kenny’s home and attacking her. That detail has since been corrected.
