An Oaklyn man who allegedly struck and killed two Camden City children with his car last month, killing one and injuring another, will face formal charges, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO).
Thirty-two-year-old Troy Kee, II was charged Wednesday with second-degree Death by Auto and fourth-degree Assault by Auto as well as other motor vehicle summonses, the CCPO reported.
Shortly before 8 p.m. on September 25, Kee, II was driving in the area of Mt. Ephraim and Ferry Avenues when he allegedly hit two children on bicycles, a 14-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl.
Police said the 12-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The 14-year-old was transported to Cooper University Hospital in critical condition; she has since been released.
Kee, II did not flee the scene, according to police, but investigators “…determined that Kee was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of impact,” according to the CCPO report.
If convicted of Death by Auto, Kee, II faces as much as 10 years in prison and as much as $200,000 in fines; a conviction of Assault by Auto carries penalties of 18 months in prison and a $10,000 fine.
