A Pennsauken teenager is in custody after allegedly attempting to kill another teen with a “ghost gun,” authorities reported.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO), the juvenile suspect allegedly shot an 18-year-old with an untraceable firearm with an extended magazine.

The victim was transported to Cooper University Hospital to treat an injury to his hand.

The incident was reported around 5 p.m. May 26, when the CCPO Major Crimes unit and Pennsauken Police responded to the 4700 block of Westfield Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Within two hours, police had arrested the suspect and located the weapon they believe was used in the shooting.

The suspect is being held in the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center pending arraignment; the identity of the suspect is not being released due to their age.

Ghost guns have been a targeted focus of law enforcement going back to 2019, when a dozen men were charged in “Operation Stone Wall” for trafficking in untraceable weapons components with the intention of evading New Jersey gun registration laws.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to contact CCPO Det. Jason Roland (856-225-5125), Pennsauken Police Det. Michael DiCamillo (856-488-0080, ext. 2403), or to e-mail anonymous tips to ccpotips@ccprosecutor.org.

Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. An arrest is not a conviction.
