Two Audubon residents were transported from the scene of a house fire Wednesday morning.
Firefighters responded to the 100 block of Carlisle Road shortly before 4 a.m. to smoke showing from the second floor of a single-family home.
The alarm was increased to an all-hands call, as companies from Audubon Park, Haddon Heights, Mount Ephraim, Oaklyn, and Westmont joined Audubon firefighters in their response.
Their apparatus lined the narrow, residential street, with hoses stretching to the middle of the block from a hydrant at the intersection of Amherst Road.
Audubon Fire Chief Patrick Slemmer said the fire was extinguished within 10 minutes of first responders’ arrival, having been contained to an upstairs bedroom in the rear of the house.
Smoke detectors in the home functioned as intended, and alerted the occupants of the home in time to evacuate, Slemmer said. They sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.
The cause of the incident has yet to be determined pending a routine investigation.
