Six more Camden County residents have lost their battles with novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and 128 others have tested positive for the virus since Tuesday, according to reports from the Camden County government.

That brings the local impact of the pandemic to 10,764 infected residents and 559 related deaths.

“Today has been a stark reminder that this pandemic is not over, the fight against this virus has not been won, and each of us still faces tremendous risks,” Camden County Freeholder-Director Lou Cappelli said in a written statement Friday.

“We cannot let our guards down, and we must continue to take all precautions to protect ourselves and one another,” he said. “Wear a mask, social-distance, and work with our contact tracing team if they call.”

LTC cases and deaths

Long-term care (LTC) facilities account for half of all deaths in the state and almost one-fifth of those infected, and new cases continue to occur there.

Of 10,764 reported local COVID-19 cases, 2,055 (19 percent) have originated in a Camden County LTC facility: 1,448 are residents and 607 are staff.

LTCs are believed to be associated with 59 percent, or 330 of the 559 total deaths in Camden County; 327 were residents and three were staff.

At this time, more than two-thirds of the 56 LTCs in Camden County (43) have experienced at least one case of COVID-19.
