Another 93 Camden County residents have been sickened by novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Camden County government reported Monday, bringing the local caseload to 4,272 patients.

Throughout New Jersey, 139,945 people have been sickened by COVID-19 and 9,310 have perished from related causes.

Of 4,272 local COVID-19 cases, 1,078 have originated in a Camden County long-term care (LTC) facility, or 25 percent.

LTCs are believed to be associated with 173 of 218 total local deaths, or 79 percent. About half of the 56 LTCs in Camden County (27) have experienced at least one case of COVID-19.

“We are encouraged to see that the rate of new cases in Camden County remains consistent with where it has been over the last ten days,” Camden County Freeholder-Director Lou Cappelli said in a statement.

“We are actively working to identify areas which are experiencing greater rates of viral activity, and we are continuing to monitor the situation in our long-term care facilities where roughly one in four of our cases have occurred,” Cappelli said.

“While we are making progress, I want to continue to urge our residents not to be lulled into thinking our fight is nearly over,” he said.

“The truth is, this fight is going to take time, but it can be made shorter if we continue to social-distance, wear face covers or masks, and follow the governor’s orders.”
