A 26-year-old Collingswood man was shot and killed at the Parkview Apartments in the borough Sunday evening.

According to a statement from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO), police found Jose Morel suffering from gunshot wounds at the complex around 10:20 p.m. November 17.

Morel was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:00 p.m, the CCPO reported.

On Monday morning, neighbors at the apartments reported seeing blood on the sidewalk, floors, and in the elevator.

Cleaning crews were disinfecting one of the elevators at the D building, where the incident occurred.

A stairwell was roped off on one of the higher floors of the complex; nearby there were still traces of what appeared to be blood on one apartment door.

One neighbor reported hearing “a big noise that sounded like furniture being moved around” shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, and feared that it might have been a gunshot.

“This is a screwed-up place,” the neighbor said. “I see people coming in here all hours of the night and day. I know it’s not a Bible study class.”

The shooting is at least the second violent death to have occurred in the D Building of the complex this year. In April, a 66-year-old woman fell to her death from the 10th floor of the tower in an apparent suicide.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. No arrests have yet been made, and police are asking anyone with information to call CCPO Det. Matthew Barber (856-225-5166), Collingswood Det. Michael Manning (856-854-1901), or e-mail ccpotips@ccprosecutor.org.
