A Pennsauken man who was speeding along Chapel Avenue with PCP in his bloodstream when his vehicle struck and killed a car carrying three women in a 2013 car accident will face 22 to 27 years in prison, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO) reported.
Keith A. Johnson, 33, was driving his Dodge Durango “between 70 and 100 mph in a 25-mph zone” on January 31, 2013, when the vehicle hit a Honda Odyssey carrying Anaida Medina, 36; her daughter, Stephanie Garcia, 18; both of Cherry Hill, and a then-26-year-old Pennsauken woman.
Medina and Garcia were killed in the head-on collision; the third woman “was hospitalized with numerous serious injuries,” the CCPO reported, “but survived.” Johnson was driving into oncoming traffic at the time of the crash, authorities said. The accident occurred at the circle near the intersection of Russell Avenue in Merchantville.
Johnson will be sentenced May 15, and faces 22 to 27 years in state prison, of which he will be required to serve 19 to 23 years before he will be parole-eligible. He pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and one count of second-degree assault by auto.
A father of six, Johnson had previously been convicted of third-degree aggravated assault in 2001, and a second time in 2005. His criminal history includes multiple suspensions of his driver license, according to NJ.com.
