Police were investigating an apparent death at the Parkview at Collingswood Apartments Sunday night.
No official word is yet available, but residents said they believed one of their neighbors may have fallen from a balcony on the 10th floor of the D building.
Collingswood Police, Haddon Township Police, and officers from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO) kept the parking lot at the rear of the building cordoned off just before 10 p.m.
Near them, on the ground beside the building, appeared to be human remains covered in a tarp. After about an hour, they were carted away by a black, unmarked van.
Witness accounts varied, but multiple people corroborated the story that someone had dropped from the top-most balcony of the building. Later, investigators could be seen photographing that balcony.
One resident reported having been drawn to the scene by the sounds of an argument.
“I heard what I thought was a fight,” the resident said. “I came out the side door and heard a thump.
“A guy pulling in said, ‘Did you see that?” the resident continued. “‘There’s a body on the ground.'”
Neighbors in the nearby C building said they thought they’d seen something go over the side of the D building balcony. Others reported hearing commotion before the police arrived. Some said at least one person was transported from the scene by EMTs.
None of the witness accounts has yet been verified by investigators, and police were not available for comment.
