A Burlington City man accused of murdering a teenager and wounding three other people in a February 2016 shooting has been formally indicted by a grand jury on five criminal counts.
Twenty-two-year-old Kevin Fentress was charged Thursday with first-degree murder, third-degree and fourth-degree aggravated assault, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree unlawful possession of weapons.
Fentress allegedly killed 17-year-old Jadyre Gordon of Camden City and wounded two other people after a party at the the Inn of the Dove motel on February 28, 2016. He allegedly shot into the rear of a parked car carrying Gordon, another man, and a woman, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO).
Police said Gordon and the man and woman who had been in the car with him were driven in a private vehicle to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden; from there, Gordon was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:37 a.m. The other victims were treated for their injuries at Lourdes and were released.
After an investigation that spanned New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, Fentress was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Marietta, Georgia on May 6, 2016, and subsequently extradited to New Jersey. He has been detained in the Camden County Jail, where he will be held without bail pending trial.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until and unless convicted in a court of law.
